Easter Weekend in Dublin’s fair city



Wondering what to get up to this Easter? Well we have listed 5 great events that are taking place this Easter weekend in the city. From kids chocolate feasts to a night at the theatre, there is something for everyone to enjoy.


1. Cadbury’s Easter Egg Trail at Croke Park Stadium

Date: Monday 14th April to Monday 21st April (excl.Friday 18th)
Time: Daily at 13.30

As part of the Croke Park Museum guided tour, there is an extra special tour for the little ones whereby they will follow clues to find tokens which they can then use to collect their Cadbury Easter Eggs.
The fun and interesting tours take place behind the scenes at Croke Park where visitors get the chance to access areas such the players’ lounge, the dressing rooms, warm-up area and pitch side. Then top it all off by enjoying a bird’s eye view of the stadium from the top tier.

2. DL Kid’s Easter Party

Dates: 14th to 18th & 22nd to 25th April. David Lloyd Riverview.   

There are Easter camps available for kids of all ages;

  •  Mini Camp for children 3-4yrs, which runs from 9am to 1pm.  
  •  Holiday Active camp for children 5-11yrs who can choose from a full day (9am to 5pm) or half day (9am to 1pm).  

There are session plans in place each day to entertain your kids with an array of sports, and arts and crafts activities. Kids will have the opportunity to swim, play tennis and meet new friends plus lots more.
Non-members are welcome. From €24 for half day to €35 for full day.  (Non-members are €28 and €42 respectively). Lunch and snacks are also included.


3. The Viking Big Dig and Viking House!

Dates: Saturday the 12thof April to Sunday the 27th of April.
Times: 10.30/11.30/12.30pm and 2.30/3.30pm.

The Viking Big Dig and Viking House will celebrate the 1000 year anniversary of the Battle of Clontarf. At the Viking big dig, children will experience what it is like to be an archaeologist and find Viking treasures dating back over 1000 years. For the adults, there will also be a full size reconstruction of a Viking house within the Dublinia courtyard, showing how a Viking house was built, and you can even get involved in the build too.

4. The Battle of Clontarf Festival  


Dates: 19th – 20th April  

Dublin City Council proposes to stage the largest Viking village and living history battle re-enactment ever produced in Ireland. The Viking village will contain static and interactive displays of Viking life and include demonstrations of Viking Skills and Crafts such as weapons displays , storytelling,  Blacksmith, Leather working, Pole Lathe, Coin Striking, Silversmith, Hnefatafl (Viking Chess), Archery Display and Viking Long Boat, Falconry Displays, Mounted Viking Displays.



Taking place at St. Anne's Park & Rose Gardens, Raheny, Dublin 5, this is a free event suitable for the whole family.


5.      War Horse

27th March – 27th April

War Horse is the powerful story of a young boy called Albert and his beloved horse, Joey, who has been requisitioned to fight for the English in World War I. Caught in enemy crossfire, Joey ends up serving on both sides during the war before landing in no man’s land, while Albert, not old enough to enlist, embarks on a treacherous mission to find his horse and bring him home. A remarkable tale of courage, loyalty and friendship, War Horse features ground-breaking puppetry work by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, which brings breathing and galloping horses to life on stage. 




Suitable for both adults and children.  Experience the emotional journey that charges through the battlefields of history straight to hearts of audiences around the world.
